Change the person, keep the pattern
Last time you used “I am ready” and “You are ready.” Point to one man in a photo and say “He is ready.” Point to one woman and say “She is ready.” Point to two people and say “They are ready.”
One person takes is, groups take are
Use he for one male person and she for one female person. Use it for one thing or animal when sex is not important. All three take is. Their usual short forms are he’s, she’s and it’s.
Use we for the speaker plus another person. Use they for two or more people or things. Both take are. Their short forms are we’re and they’re.
| Subject | Verb | Example |
|---|---|---|
| he, she, it | is | She is at home. |
| we, they | are | They are at home. |

Choose the verb by looking at the subject
Describe three real people
- Choose three family photos or names.
- Say one true sentence about each person.
- Record all three, then check is and are.
Add one group sentence with we or they. Do not guess private facts. A name, city or job you already know is enough.

Keep I and you active
Say the missing words: I ___ ready. You ___ early. She ___ here. We ___ students. They ___ busy.

Make a five-line photo caption
Choose one family or team photo. Write five short, true captions with he, she, it, we or they. Read the captions aloud once.
The pattern to keep
He, she and it take is. We and they take are. Use pronouns to avoid repeating a name or noun. In the next lesson, you will add not and turn these sentences into questions.
