English courseFree learning resourceReviewed 23 August 2026

Find a useful starting point, not a certificate

This free English level test has 24 fixed questions in three short stages. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes, needs no account and is untimed. It estimates grammar, vocabulary and reading from Pre-A1 to B2. It does not certify your CEFR level or measure free speaking, listening and writing.

How the Academy levels fit

  • English for Beginners, Pre-A1 to A2: start from letters, essential phrases and core grammar.
  • Advanced English, B1 to B2: build connected speaking, clearer writing and more precise reading. This course publishes after the Beginner canary gate.
  • Business English, entry from B1: practise professional communication after the required foundation. This course is not yet published.

Apex costs more and has provided stronger security evidence. Before we recommend either supplier, I suggest that we ask Northstar to clarify its response times and request one customer reference from Apex. Start from true zero

The foundations course is the best fit. This estimate does not measure speaking or listening.

Start Letters and Sounds

Start in the middle of Beginner

You recognise some foundations. Begin at the recommended module, then move back if speaking still feels difficult.

Start Present Simple

Use the later Beginner modules

Your answers suggest late A1 or early A2 work. Reading answers cannot confirm your spoken level.

Start Past Simple

Advanced English may be your next course

This route is around B1 on grammar, vocabulary and reading only. The Advanced course publishes after its gate, so use the honest fallback meanwhile.

Start Advanced English

Your result is around B2

Check this estimate against a real speaking task. The Advanced course route remains phase-aware.

Start Discussion and Argument

At or above this test’s B2 ceiling

MetaCyberGuru does not teach or certify C1. Business English may fit professional goals after a solid B1, while an accredited external test is needed for formal evidence.

Optional speaking reality check

This does not change your score. For each sentence, read or play it, cover it, say it aloud from memory, then check. If you cannot say both sentences at your estimated level, consider starting one stage earlier. This is a suggestion, not a rule.

  1. My name is Sam and I live in Lahore.
  2. I need a ticket for tomorrow morning.
  3. I usually walk to work, but today I took the bus.
  4. Could you repeat the last part more slowly, please?
  5. Although the journey was delayed, we arrived before the meeting began.
  6. I would choose the cheaper option if its support plan covered weekends.
  7. The proposal may be workable, provided that the supplier clarifies the remaining security risk.
  8. Had the team reviewed the evidence earlier, it might have avoided the current delay.
