Letters and Sounds: guided Pre-A1 practice

What you will be able to handle

Letters and Sounds starts with language a learner can use in school, at home or with friends. The first lesson builds this result: I can name and recognise all 26 letters, capital and small. The checkpoint then combines the module in a short quiz and a private speaking or writing task. You may whisper, write first or use the phone recorder. A slow first attempt still counts.

Level: Pre-A1. This module contains 6 connected lessons. Follow the order when the topic is new, or use the lesson map to repair one specific gap.

What useful practice looks like

• The English Alphabet: I can name and recognise all 26 letters, capital and small.
• Sounds and Spelling: I can read short regular words aloud.
• Numbers 0 to 100: I can say numbers, ages, phone numbers and simple prices.

Use true information where possible. A sentence about your own routine, work or plans is easier to remember than a sentence copied from a model.

A study routine for Letters and Sounds

1. Read the outcome for The English Alphabet before the examples.
2. Say or write one model, then change at least two details.
3. Complete the quiz before opening its answer panels.
4. Use the module checkpoint to produce Review + Checkpoint: Letters and Sounds independently.
5. Return only to the lesson that matches the error you found.

How to know you are ready to continue

Do not judge readiness by reading speed. You are ready when you can complete the checkpoint task with a clear message, understandable language and no copied answer. A small number of errors is normal at Pre-A1; errors should not hide your meaning.

If the checkpoint is difficult, repeat the lesson whose outcome matches the problem. That is faster than restarting the whole module.
