Numbers become useful when they carry information

I can say numbers, ages, phone numbers and simple prices.

This lesson is short on purpose. Finish the speaking task before you move on.

Hear the pattern from zero to one hundred

Read the core sequence: zero, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Continue with eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen and twenty.

After twenty, combine the tens and ones: twenty-one, thirty-four, fifty-eight. The round tens are twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety and one hundred.

Count what is near you

Try one example before reading the explanation. Say it aloud, even if the answer feels uncertain.

Use a finger, a pen or the phone screen to keep your place.

Teens and tens need different stress

Teen numbers place the main stress near the end: thirTEEN. Round tens place it near the start: THIRty. This difference matters on a phone or at a shop.

Say phone numbers one digit at a time. 0301 becomes zero three zero one. Speakers may say “oh” for zero, but zero is clearer for a new learner.

Use How old are you? for age. Answer with “I am twenty-four.” The word years is optional in that short answer.

For prices, say the number before rupees: “This is eighty rupees.” Larger prices come later. The goal here is fast, accurate numbers up to one hundred.

Avoid three costly mix-ups

Not: fourty. Use: forty.

Listen for thirteen and thirty. Stress changes the meaning.

Do not read a phone number as one huge number. Say each digit separately.
