Read one week and one year

The week is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The year is January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November and December.

Ask: “What day is it today?” Answer: “It is Monday.” Ask: “What is the date?” Answer: “It is the twenty-third of August.”

Start with today

Try one example before reading the explanation. Say it aloud, even if the answer feels uncertain.

Use a finger, a pen or the phone screen to keep your place.

Dates use order words

Days and months begin with capital letters. Write Monday, not monday. Write August, not august.

A date uses an ordinal number. One becomes first. Two becomes second. Three becomes third. Four becomes fourth. Continue with fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth.

British English commonly says “the twenty-third of August”. Written dates may appear as 23 August 2026. American English often puts the month first. This course uses the British order.

Use on before a day when you make a longer sentence: “The class is on Friday.” The full preposition system comes later.

Watch the calendar, not Urdu word order

Not: Monday is today. Use: Today is Monday.

Do not write day and month names with small first letters.
