Astra Recorder Privacy Policy

Applies to the Astra Recorder Android app (package com.metacyberguru.astrarecorder). Last updated 10 August 2026.

Astra Recorder is built so that your recordings stay yours. They are stored on your own device, and they are only sent anywhere if you personally switch on cloud backup and sign in.

The short version

We do not run a server that receives your recordings. We cannot listen to them, we do not have copies of them, and we could not hand them to anyone if we were asked. Backup, if you enable it, goes directly from your phone to your own Google Drive account.

What stays on your device

The following never leaves your phone unless you deliberately export or back it up:

  • Audio recordings of calls and voice memos.
  • Recording details such as the phone number, contact name, date, duration and any notes or markers you add.
  • Your settings, including your PIN, audio preferences and the numbers on your include or exclude lists.

Contact names are resolved on the device by looking up the number in your own address book. That lookup does not go over the internet, and we never receive your contact list.

Google Drive backup

Cloud backup is off until you turn it on. If you do turn it on and sign in with Google:

  • Your recordings are uploaded from your phone straight to your own Google Drive.
  • The app asks only for the drive.file permission, which limits it to files the app itself created. It cannot see, read or alter anything else in your Drive.
  • We are not part of that transfer and never hold a copy. What happens to the files afterwards is governed by Google’s privacy policy.
  • You can revoke the app’s access at any time from your Google account permissions page, and you can turn backup off inside the app.

What we do collect

The app uses Google Firebase for crash diagnostics, performance monitoring, remote configuration and basic usage measurement. Depending on the enabled service and configuration, Google may process app-instance identifiers, device model, operating-system version, app events, crash traces, performance timings and an IP-derived general region. Astra Recorder is configured not to send recording audio, call numbers, contact names, notes or recording contents to Firebase.

ServiceTypical diagnostic dataPurpose
Firebase CrashlyticsCrash traces, app state, device model, operating-system version and app-instance identifiersDiagnose and fix crashes
Google Analytics for FirebaseApp events, device/app information and approximate regionUnderstand feature use and improve the app
Firebase Performance MonitoringStartup and network-performance measurements with device/app informationFind slow or unreliable operations
Firebase Remote ConfigApp-instance and configuration-request informationDeliver compatible app settings

See Google’s Firebase privacy and security documentation for current service-level details.

Advertising

The app includes the Google Mobile Ads SDK. The SDK may process advertising identifiers, IP address, user interactions, diagnostic information and device/account information for advertising, fraud prevention, measurement and related services. Consent choices are presented where required, and you can change the available choice later in the app. Google’s current SDK disclosure is available in the Google Mobile Ads data-disclosure guide.

Children

Astra Recorder is not directed at children and is not intended for anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Your control over your data

  • Delete a recording from the timeline and the file is removed from your device.
  • Delete everything by uninstalling the app, which removes its local data. Files you exported or backed up yourself remain wherever you put them.
  • Disconnect Drive by signing out in the app or revoking access in your Google account.
  • Opt out of analytics by turning off usage and diagnostics sharing in the app’s settings.

Recording laws

Rules about recording phone calls vary between countries and, in some places, between regions. In some jurisdictions one participant’s consent is enough; in others everyone on the call must agree. Astra Recorder gives you the tool, but complying with the law where you live is your responsibility.

Data retention and controller

Local recordings and app settings remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app. Files you export or back up remain wherever you placed them. Diagnostic and advertising data processed by Google is retained under the applicable Google service settings and policies; MetaCyberGuru does not claim a single retention period for every Google service.

The app developer and privacy contact is METACYBERGURU LTD, 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom. For a privacy question or request, use the MetaCyberGuru contact page. Because Astra Recorder does not require a MetaCyberGuru account, we may need information such as the app version and device details to investigate a diagnostic-data request, and we may not be able to identify an anonymous Firebase or advertising record as belonging to you.

Security

Recordings are stored in the app’s local storage and optional Drive transfers use Google’s authenticated connection. No storage method is risk-free: protect the device with a screen lock, keep Android updated and avoid exporting recordings to shared locations unless you intend to share them.
