Start with a real example
Model 1: There is a bank on this street.
Model 2: There are two chairs here.
Model 3: Is there a pharmacy nearby?
What changes the meaning
Use there is for one thing and there are for more than one.
Read for meaning, notice the pattern, then rebuild the model from memory.
- there is / there are: use it in one true sentence of your own.
- negatives: use it in one true sentence of your own.
- Is there…? Are there…?: use it in one true sentence of your own.
Where learners often slip
Not: There a bank on this street.
Use: There is a bank on this street.
Why: The corrected version keeps the intended meaning and the lesson pattern together.
