Is Stripe Available in Pakistan?

Stripe still does not operate in Pakistan. You cannot open a Stripe account with a Pakistani business, a Pakistani bank account or a Pakistani address, and there is no waiting list that changes that. Checked against Stripe’s global availability list on 12 August 2026, Pakistan is not on it. The rest of this page is about what that leaves you with, including the route most Pakistani founders take and the parts of it nobody puts in the sales pitch.

What “not supported” actually means

Stripe decides availability by where your business is legally established and banked, not by where you happen to sit when you sign up. A Pakistani company with a Pakistani bank account cannot complete onboarding. Using a VPN does not help, because the check happens on your business documents and your bank details rather than your IP address.

This matters because a lot of advice online blurs the two. “Can I access Stripe from Pakistan” and “can I get paid through Stripe while living in Pakistan” are different questions with different answers. The first is no. The second is yes, conditionally, and the conditions are the whole story.

Which countries near Pakistan Stripe does support

Checking the same list on 12 August 2026, Stripe supports India, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. It does not support Pakistan, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka. That regional pattern is worth knowing if someone tells you Stripe is “coming soon” to Pakistan, it has been absent for years while neighbouring markets were added, and Stripe has published no timeline for changing that.

The route people actually use: a company somewhere Stripe supports

If you ask how Pakistani founders take card payments, the honest answer is that most of them register a company in the United States, usually a Delaware or Wyoming LLC, and open Stripe under that entity. Stripe sells the incorporation step itself through Stripe Atlas.

Atlas prices are published, so you can plan against them. Incorporation costs $500, and the Delaware registered agent that the state requires costs $100 a year after your first year. That package gets you the company, its federal tax ID, and the paperwork needed to open a business bank account. Those figures are from Stripe Atlas pricing documentation on 12 August 2026 and are the sort of thing that moves, so check before you commit.

You do not need to fly anywhere. You do not need a US partner. What you do need is to understand what you are signing up for, which is the part the tutorials skip.

What that route actually costs you, beyond the $500

A US company is not a one-off purchase. It is an ongoing obligation in a legal system you do not live in, and the penalties are not proportional to how small your business is.

  • Annual US federal filings. A single-member LLC owned by a non-US person must file Form 5472 together with a pro-forma Form 1120 every year, even in a year with no income and no activity. The IRS penalty for not filing is $25,000. That is not a typo, and it is not scaled down for small companies.
  • State fees. Delaware charges an annual LLC franchise tax, and the registered agent renews yearly. Budget for both before you incorporate, not after.
  • Stripe expects the business to be real. Stripe’s terms require the account to belong to a business genuinely established in a supported country. An entity that exists only as a Stripe workaround, with no substance behind it, is the profile that gets reviewed and frozen, and a frozen Stripe account holds your money while it is reviewed.
  • Pakistan’s rules still apply to you. Registering a company abroad does not move your tax residency. Income you earn is still yours to declare here, and Pakistan has its own rules about holding funds offshore and bringing them home.

None of that makes the route wrong. Plenty of people run it properly and it works. It does mean the real cost is closer to a few hundred dollars a year plus an accountant who understands foreign-owned LLCs, rather than a single $500 payment. Anyone presenting it as a one-time fee is selling you something.

This is also the point to say plainly what this page is not: it is not tax or legal advice, and the consequences of getting US filings wrong are expensive enough that a professional is cheaper than a mistake.

Getting the money from Stripe to Pakistan

This is the step most guides leave out, and it is the one that decides whether the whole arrangement is worth it. Stripe pays out to a bank account in the country the business is registered in. A US LLC means a US business bank account. Your money lands there, not in Karachi.

So you need a second hop. In practice that is a service like Payoneer or Wise moving funds from the US account to a Pakistani bank, or a direct international transfer if your bank handles them sensibly. Each hop costs something, and the cost is a percentage plus a spread on the exchange rate rather than a flat fee, which means it scales with your revenue.

Work that out before you incorporate. If you are processing a few hundred dollars a month, the combined cost of the company, the filings and two currency conversions can eat more than the convenience is worth. At larger volumes the maths flips, which is exactly why this is a volume question and not a yes-or-no one.

A UK limited company is the other common answer, since Stripe supports the United Kingdom too. The trade-offs are different rather than simply better: Companies House filings are public, and a UK company brings its own accounting obligations. The principle is the same either way, the company has to be real, and you have to keep it compliant in the country you chose.

What works without incorporating anywhere

If you are freelancing rather than running a product business, incorporation is usually the wrong tool. Most people getting paid from abroad into Pakistan never touch Stripe at all.

  • Payoneer works in Pakistan and is the most common route for freelancers billing international clients, with withdrawals to a local bank account.
  • Wise is worth checking against your specific corridor rather than assumed, because what it supports for Pakistan differs from what it supports elsewhere.
  • Direct bank transfer is slow and the correspondent-bank fees are ugly, but it is accepted everywhere and nothing can freeze it on a whim.
  • Local gateways handle Pakistani customers paying in rupees, which is a different problem from being paid from abroad and needs a different tool.

We cover each of these separately, because “how do I get paid” has a different answer depending on whether your customers are in Karachi or California. Start with how Pakistani freelancers get paid by international clients, then Payoneer in Pakistan and whether Wise is available in Pakistan. If you are selling to customers inside Pakistan, payment gateways that work in Pakistan is the relevant one.

So is Stripe available in Pakistan, or not

Not to a Pakistani business. Available to you personally, if you build and maintain a legitimate company in a country Stripe supports and accept the filing obligations that come with it. Anyone who answers that question with a flat yes is either selling incorporation services or has not read Stripe’s terms.

The version of this page you may have read before said something vaguer. This one is dated deliberately: payment availability in this region changes without announcement, and an answer with a date on it is more useful than one delivered with confidence.

Common questions

Is Stripe available in Pakistan?

No. Stripe does not support Pakistan as a business location, verified against Stripe’s published country list on 12 August 2026. You cannot onboard with a Pakistani company, bank account or address, and Stripe has announced no timeline for adding Pakistan.

Can I use Stripe with a US LLC while living in Pakistan?

Yes, and this is what most Pakistani founders do. Stripe’s requirement is that the business is legally established in a supported country, not that you personally live there. The company has to be genuine, with real activity behind it, because an entity that exists only to unlock Stripe is the kind that gets reviewed and frozen.

How much does it cost to set up a US LLC for Stripe?

Stripe Atlas charges $500 to incorporate, with a Delaware registered agent at $100 a year after the first year, as published on 12 August 2026. Add the Delaware annual franchise tax and an accountant for the yearly US filings. Treat it as a recurring cost of a few hundred dollars a year, not a one-time $500.

Will Stripe close my account if I live in Pakistan?

Living in Pakistan is not by itself a violation. Accounts get restricted when the business behind them does not match what was declared, no real operations in the supported country, mismatched documents, or a sudden pattern of payments that does not fit the stated business. Keep the company genuinely operating and your documents consistent.

What can I use instead of Stripe in Pakistan?

Payoneer is the most widely used option for freelancers billing international clients, with withdrawals to a Pakistani bank. Wise is worth checking for your specific corridor. Direct bank transfer is slow and expensive but universally accepted. For selling to customers inside Pakistan, a local gateway is the right tool rather than any of these.
